Hyperliquid Unveils USDC Yield Mechanism for HYPE Buybacks
Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetuals exchange, is set to initiate a new mechanism for buying back its token, HYPE. This 'yield machine' involves generating USDC yield on the exchange's reserves, which will be funneled into the Hyperliquid Assistance Fund to purchase HYPE on the open market.
According to the source, approximately $14.58 million in USDC is pending transfer to the Assistance Fund as of October 3, 2026. This amount is close to the roughly $15 million market anticipation. The mechanism, known as AQAv2, was approved by validators on June 12, 2026, with 69.08% support.
The setup operates under a 1:9 technical-to-treasury balance requirement, with Coinbase serving as the official USDC treasury deployer and Circle handling technical deployments. The reserve balance is estimated to be between $5 billion and $6.7 billion, with prevailing yields of about 3% translating to projected annual buyback funding of $135-200 million from reserves alone.
