Hyperscale Data Ditches Mining for AI Computing, Cuts BTC Holdings by 79%
Hyperscale Data has ceased all Bitcoin mining operations at its Michigan facility, effective September 1. The company plans to sell its existing mining equipment and redirect the power towards artificial intelligence computing.
The shutdown marks a significant shift in Hyperscale's business strategy as it prepares to convert the Michigan site into an AI data center. A contracted customer has agreed to take on 20 megawatts of critical AI computing capacity under a master services agreement, with two optional five-year extensions available later.
The initial contract term runs for ten years and could produce more than $1.2 billion in revenue over twenty years, assuming the customer exercises both extension options. However, this figure is not guaranteed revenue and depends on various future decisions by the contracted customer.
