Hyperscale Data Splits Bitcoin Mining Business from AI Operations
Hyperscale Data, a company that operates in the hyperscale data center market, announced plans to separate its Bitcoin mining business from its AI infrastructure operations. The move will be done through the formation of a new subsidiary called Patriot BTC, which will hold the company's mining operations.
The company stated that this separation is necessary because Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure have different capital requirements and priorities. In an interview, Executive Chairman Milton Ault III said, 'Bitcoin mining can be viable as a focused, single-purpose business.'
Hyperscale Data has invested over $70 million in its Michigan facility and expects operations to begin in November under an agreement with a California-based neocloud provider. The company estimates that this agreement could generate more than $1.2 billion if it runs for 20 years, and up to $3 billion if the customer expands to 52 megawatts.
The shares of Hyperscale Data (GPUS) fell by more than 5% in morning trading on Tuesday, while Bitcoin (BTC) reached an eight-month high, trading around $86,303 at the time of writing. The company holds about 215 BTC according to data from BitcoinTreasuries.net.
Hyperscale Data's decision to separate its mining business comes as it aims to clarify the valuation of both its mining and AI operations.
