IBIT's Convenience Comes with a Cost: 0.25% Annual Sponsor Fee

The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) allows investors to buy exposure to Bitcoin from an ordinary brokerage account, eliminating the need for a crypto wallet or private keys.

This convenience comes at a cost: IBIT charges a 0.25% annual sponsor fee, which is collected regardless of Bitcoin's performance.

The fee may seem insignificant compared to Bitcoin's volatility, but it accrues daily and can reduce the amount of Bitcoin represented by each IBIT share over time.

For example, in the first six months of 2026, IBIT recorded approximately $72.1 million in sponsor fees and sold roughly 1,062 Bitcoin to pay expenses.
