IBM Swift Ledger Integrates Tokenized Deposits with Banks' Trusted Systems
IBM has integrated its Digital Asset Haven platform with Swift's blockchain-based ledger to create the IBM Swift Ledger. This integration allows banks to move deposits 24/7 using regular ISO 20022 messages.
The IBM Swift Ledger works as a coordination and synchronized record layer for Swift's network of over 12,500 institutions in more than 200 jurisdictions. It is not a settlement system but rather uses an ISO 20022 adapter that converts instructions into tokenized transfers.
This integration brings tokenization into trusted systems, which is different from the approach used by stablecoins like USDC, USDT, and PYUSD. The IBM Swift Ledger adds programmability and visibility to the process while maintaining legal finality in existing correspondent accounts.
