ICE Ponders Blockchain Trading with Multiple Platforms in Running
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), is exploring the development of an alternative trading system (ATS) that allows for 24/7 trading of stocks and ETFs on the blockchain. In a statement, Michael Braughlund, Vice President of Strategy at ICE, revealed that Avalanche (AVAX) is one of several candidates being considered for this platform.
Braughlund stated that while comparing various platforms, 'Avalanche meets many criteria,' and ICE is 'strengthening our collaboration with their team.' However, it's essential to note that a formal contract has not been announced, and the evaluation phase is ongoing. The development of this 24/7 ATS was not previously disclosed by ICE or NYSE.
Avalanche's official X account (@avax) posted about the statement on September 17, but no independent confirmation from ICE or NYSE has been provided. This news comes as part of a broader strategy to build market infrastructure for on-chain trading, settlement, custody, and fundraising, according to Braughlund.
