Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE), the company behind the New York Stock Exchange, is set to launch a new derivatives exchange using Hyperliquid's (CRYPTO: HYPE) infrastructure. The announcement on October 29 marks a significant milestone for Hyperliquid, as it aims to integrate more deeply with the traditional financial system. The new market will focus on perpetual futures contracts, a key revenue driver for Hyperliquid, and will be developed by TradeXYZ, a company closely tied to Hyperliquid.

The deal includes ICE taking a minority stake in TradeXYZ, pending regulatory approvals. TradeXYZ already dominates Hyperliquid's third-party markets, holding 97% of the $4.1 billion in open interest. Perpetual futures are Hyperliquid's primary source of revenue, with about $217.2 billion in perpetuals traded on its exchange during the 30-day period ended October 30, generating $64.1 million in revenue.

This isn't ICE's first foray into the crypto space. Payward, the parent company of Kraken, also plans to offer perpetual futures using Hyperliquid's HIP-3 builder markets. The regulatory approval process remains a critical hurdle, but the backing from major players like ICE and Kraken positions Hyperliquid favorably for future growth. The company's model allows third-party market deployers to fund their own markets, reducing Hyperliquid's need for significant capital investments.

Hyperliquid's coin saw an 18% increase over the prior seven days, reflecting investor optimism about the company's expanding role in the financial ecosystem. However, potential investors should consider that Hyperliquid was not among the top 10 stocks recommended by The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team, which has historically identified high-growth opportunities.
