ICODA Releases HackGPT: A Guide to Generative Engine Optimization for Web3 Projects
Crypto marketing agency ICODA has released HackGPT, a 51-page guide to generative engine optimization (GEO) for Web3 projects. The guide was developed in collaboration with Semrush and is based on research into how language models like ChatGPT and Perplexity interact with search results.
The report highlights the disconnect between Google rankings and investor discovery, citing a study that found only 43.2% of top-ranked pages are ever cited by ChatGPT. This has significant implications for crypto projects operating in fast-paced launch cycles, where failing to adapt to AI citation dynamics can result in lost revenue.
ICODA's research also showed that traditional SEO strategies often fail to account for the unique characteristics of language models, which prioritize source authority and conversational signals over general information queries. The agency has developed a framework that maps the full citation lifecycle across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, with each tactic tied to platform-specific retrieval behavior.
