Illinois Crypto Tax Delay Sought by Officials and Industry

Share

Illinois officials and representatives of the crypto industry have jointly requested a Sangamon County judge to delay the implementation of a 0.2% tax on cryptocurrency transactions and wallet transfers.

The proposed tax would cover buying or selling cryptocurrency and moving crypto assets between wallets, regardless of whether the activity results in a profit or a loss.

The request seeks to push the planned effective date from January 1, 2027, to July 1, 2027, and would require the judge's approval.
