Illinois Delays Crypto Tax Until July 2027 Pending Judge Approval
Illinois has agreed to delay implementing a 0.2% tax on crypto transactions until July 1, 2027, pending judge approval.
The Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association negotiated the delay with state officials after arguing that the tax provision was inserted into the budget without sufficient debate or public input.
The agreement postpones enforcement of the 'Digital Asset Tax Act' while a legal dispute over its constitutionality and enforceability continues in court.
Cody Carbone, CEO of The Digital Chamber, stated that the delay gives businesses and users 'relief from costly compliance obligations' as the organization seeks to overturn the tax in court.
