Illinois Publishes Draft Rules for Digital Asset Tax Ahead of January 2027 Levy
The Illinois Department of Revenue has published draft rules for its forthcoming digital asset tax, which will impose a 0.2% levy on cryptocurrency transactions starting January 1, 2027.
The proposed rules target digital asset brokers, including centralized exchanges (CEXs) and custodial services that exchange, transfer or store assets for Illinois customers.
IDOR has set a $100,000 gross-receipts nexus threshold for out-of-state firms, requiring them to register, collect, and remit the tax.
