IMF Approves $138 Million Funding for El Salvador with Bitcoin Waivers
El Salvador has secured a significant $138 million funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after the organization granted waivers for missed program targets related to Bitcoin accumulation.
The IMF approved the immediate release of SDR 101.96 million, equivalent to about $138 million, following the completion of the second and third reviews under El Salvador's 40-month Extended Fund Facility worth around $1.4 billion overall.
The funding is contingent on El Salvador implementing economic reforms, including stricter regulations and increased transparency concerning government crypto asset holdings.
