IMF Approves $138M Disbursement for El Salvador, Waives Bitcoin-Related Criteria
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the release of $138 million to El Salvador under its $1.4 billion financing program, despite the country not meeting certain performance targets.
The decision was made after the IMF's Executive Board completed the second and third reviews of El Salvador's 40-month Extended Fund Facility arrangement.
IMF officials said the disbursement was accompanied by waivers tied to 'strong corrective measures and renewed commitments.'
The IMF also stated that it will not carry out further Bitcoin accumulation beyond previously documented donations, which is a key part of El Salvador's $1.4 billion financing program.
