IMF Clears $138M Payment to El Salvador After Waiving Bitcoin Accumulation Targets
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved an immediate disbursement of approximately $138 million to El Salvador under its $1.4 billion financing program.
This decision comes after the IMF's second and third reviews of El Salvador's 40-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF), which were completed on Thursday.
The IMF granted waivers for unmet criteria, citing 'strong corrective measures' and renewed commitments from El Salvador.
The lender highlighted progress in financial sector reforms, fiscal transparency measures, and Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) reforms.
