The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted El Salvador $138 million in funds under its $1.4 billion financing program, despite some performance criteria not being met.

The IMF's Executive Board completed the second and third reviews of El Salvador's 40-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF) arrangement on Thursday, which included granting waivers for missed performance criteria related to Bitcoin accumulation.

El Salvador had accumulated 1,090 BTC worth $100 million in November 2025, leading questions about compliance with its IMF program. However, the IMF stated that the increase in El Salvador's holdings came from private donations, not public resources.

The agency also noted that majority ownership and operational control of the Chivo wallet had been transferred to a private operator, while the government retained a minority stake and custodial responsibilities.
