Immutable Merges Chains, Ronin Shifts Towards Ethereum L2
Immutable has finalized the merger of its two chains, Immutable X and Immutable zkEVM, into one network called Immutable Chain. This move aims to address the long-standing issue of fragmentation in the blockchain gaming sector, where liquidity and developer attention have been split between multiple chains since the zkEVM chain launched.
The merger marks a significant step towards consolidating liquidity and user bases across chains. As part of this update, IMX has announced that it will adopt Polygon's AggLayer to unify users and liquidity across chains.
Ronin is also making progress in its shift towards Ethereum Layer 2 infrastructure, with its migration from a standalone sidechain now complete. The project has flagged the development of a governance dashboard, expected in Q3 2026, which will allow RON holders to vote directly on treasury and protocol decisions.
The broader GameFi sector saw an uptick in market capitalization this week, reaching around $4.92 billion, up 4.2 percent over 24 hours at the time of writing. However, individual gaming tokens like GALA and SAND moved unevenly during this period.
