India Aligns with Global Crypto Reporting Standards Under CARF

The Indian government has issued new guidelines for crypto reporting under the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF), aiming to enhance tax transparency in the digital asset space. These regulations align with the OECD's CARF, which requires Reporting Crypto-Asset Service Providers (RCASPs) to collect and report information on transactions related to virtual digital assets.

The new guidelines do not introduce new tax policies but are designed to improve visibility into crypto transactions and minimize information gaps in the decentralized space. RCASPs, including crypto exchanges, trading platforms, brokers, and other intermediaries, must comply with these regulations.

Mudrex CEO Edul Patel views this development as a 'meaningful step' toward establishing a comprehensive crypto regulatory framework in India. He believes that robust reporting standards will enable policymakers to develop balanced regulations that protect investors while promoting innovation.
