India Parliament Panel Wraps Crypto Review After Year-Long Discussions

Share

India's Parliament Panel is wrapping up its year-long review of cryptocurrency policy. The committee, led by Bharthari Mahtab, has held discussions with various stakeholders, including the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

The panel has not yet settled on a unified position, with Mahtab stating that the government neither accepts virtual digital assets nor wants to regulate them. This regulatory vacuum is creating room for misuse, according to Mahtab.

The committee's report is expected soon after the government responds next week. The response will mark one of the clearest signals yet of where Indian lawmakers stand on regulating or restricting cryptocurrencies.
