India Taps Blockchain for Tokenised Real Estate Ownership
India is exploring blockchain-based tokenisation to make real estate more accessible and transparent, said Minister of Information Technology Ashish Shelar. The goal is to create a digital ownership system that represents clearly defined rights in real-world assets through secure digital units.
Shelar emphasized the potential of responsible tokenisation to address high entry costs, complex documentation, opaque processes, and limited liquidity in the real estate market. He noted that this technology can connect capital with productive opportunities and widen participation.
The Minister warned that tokenisation must be supported by legal enforceability, transparent disclosure, cybersecurity, reliable custody, sound governance, and strong investor protection to build trust.
Shelar highlighted initiatives like The Box, a platform launched in Mumbai that brings together RealX's framework, MST Blockchain's infrastructure, and Liminal Custody's security layer. He noted that these platforms can contribute to building the necessary infrastructure for tokenisation.
