India's Crypto Market Surges as Bitcoin Rally Ignites Trading Volumes
India's cryptocurrency market has seen a significant surge in spot trading volumes after Bitcoin's recent rally, which started on August 19. According to TradingView, major exchanges like CoinDCX, CoinSwitch, WazirX, Mudrex, and Giottus have recorded an increase of over 20% in spot trading volumes.
The rally was triggered by the US Treasury Department's decision to increase the maximum size of certain long-dated bond buybacks from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation. This led to a sharp upswing that forced traders to liquidate billions in short positions, further fueling the market's momentum.
WazirX reported that its futures trade volumes surpassed spot trading, with daily futures volumes increasing by almost 7x between August 16 and 22. Giottus also saw a similar trend, with spot volume rising 22% and futures 31%. Despite the rally, industry insiders remain cautious, warning that it may not be sustainable.
