Zondacrypto CEO Seeks Leniency Amid Alleged Political Funding Links
Polish prosecutors have charged Przemysław Kral, CEO of collapsed cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, in connection with an alleged large-scale fraud. According to reporting from Onet, Kral is cooperating with investigators and seeking a reduced sentence in exchange for testimony that could include details about how Zondacrypto funding was linked to right-wing political figures in Poland.
The estimated losses for Zondacrypto customers are at least 2.4 billion Polish zlotys ($650 million), with investigators alleging that only part of customer funds were used to buy cryptocurrency, while the remainder was moved to private accounts controlled by exchange managers.
Kral has denied accusations of misappropriating customer funds, pointing to an alleged custody and key-transfer failure involving Zondacrypto founder Sylwester Suszek, who has been missing since 2022. However, prosecutors' latest estimates suggest investigators view this narrative differently.
