Industry Urges Continuation of Peirce's Pro-Crypto Policy Approach
The U.S. digital-asset industry is calling on policymakers to continue the pro-crypto policy approach of outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, known as 'Crypto Mom' for her friendly stance towards digital assets.
Peirce has spent the past eight years at the SEC pressing for clear rules rather than regulation by enforcement, and has been instrumental in shaping a regulatory framework for digital assets.
Will Schwartz, head of policy at the Blockchain Association, wrote in a CoinDesk opinion piece that Peirce's mission should be carried forward, and that the next goal for the industry should be 'financial privacy', which Peirce highlighted before her departure.
Schwartz argues that the current U.S. financial regulatory system is built around collecting and storing large amounts of personal data from consumers, and that technologies such as blockchain and zero-knowledge proofs could offer an alternative.
