Institutional Crypto Buying Surges as Stablecoins Expand and DEX Volumes Drop
From September 28 to October 4, 2026, the cryptocurrency market saw significant institutional activity. Lookonchain data reveals that stablecoin supply expanded by $715.8 million, while four public companies purchased a combined 3,342 BTC, worth approximately $286.31 million. Among these firms, Strategy acquired 334 BTC for $28.61 million, and Bitmine added 15,112 ETH for $40.86 million.
The same period saw a decline in trading activity. Decentralized exchange (DEX) spot volume dropped by 3.92%, and perpetuals volume fell by 9.85% week-over-week. Protocol revenue also decreased by 2.57%. Despite this broader contraction, SundaeSwap's revenue surged by an impressive 11,613%.
Bitcoin's price prediction models are now incorporating the past year's institutional accumulation patterns, as stablecoin market growth continues to fuel leveraged positions. As of the latest data, Bitcoin trades at $85,280.76, within the Bollinger band, with upper resistance at $86,630.28 and lower support at $83,897.15. The EMA50 at $84,666.58 and EMA200 at $81,455.18 both provide strong support. The MACD golden cross at 407.82 maintains a bullish 4-hour structure, while the RSI at 51.59 indicates there is still room before overbought conditions develop.
