Institutional Investors Signal End of Crypto Winter, Grayscale CEO Claims
Grayscale's CEO Peter Mintzberg believes that the long-running 'crypto winter' is nearing its end. In an opinion piece published in Fortune, Mintzberg noted that institutional investors' interest in digital assets has increased significantly compared to previous periods.
This market cycle differs from previous downturns experienced in 2014, 2018, and 2022, according to Mintzberg. The more active role of institutional investors has contributed to sharper price declines being more limited compared to previous periods.
Grayscale's CEO stated that traditional financial institutions' interest in digital assets is not limited to major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, but that various use cases for blockchain technology are also on companies' agendas. He cited data showing that 73% of institutional investors plan to increase their portfolio allocation to digital assets this year.
Mintzberg argued that the increasing interest of institutional investors could help the crypto market mature. While individual investors had a higher weight in previous cycles, the development of digital asset strategies by large financial institutions and companies is changing the structure of the market today.
