Institutions Ride Out Crypto Market Volatility Unfazed
Institutional investors have shown remarkable resilience in the face of intense market turmoil between Q4 2025 and Q2 2026. Despite a 50% decline in value, none of the 15 institutions surveyed by Bitwise cut their exposure to crypto assets.
The survey found that institutional investors maintain relatively small allocations to crypto, ranging from 0.5% to 13% of investable assets. Most hold between 1% and 2%. Their exposure is spread across ETFs, direct crypto holdings, venture capital, and hedge funds.
Bitcoin remains the strongest point of conviction among surveyed institutions, with every institution that owns crypto also holding BTC. Many see it as a store of value and a hedge against currency debasement, often comparing it to gold.
