Institutions Stand Firm on Crypto Holdings Amid Market Downturn
According to Bitwise's Institutional Crypto Adoption Report, 15 institutions maintained their crypto holdings even during a 50% market downturn. The survey found that none of these institutions reduced their exposure during this time, and several actually increased their positions.
The report revealed that Bitcoin was the largest and longest-held asset across all institutional portfolios, with most treating it as a store of value alongside gold. Ethereum and Solana held smaller positions, but some institutions stated they could exit these assets within a few years if growth in areas such as stablecoins and decentralized finance did not translate into accumulated value.
The survey also noted that nearly all institutions were using or planned to use spot cryptocurrency ETFs. This contrasts with CoinShares' 13F data report, which indicated that professional investors' exposure to spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. fell 17% in the first quarter.
