Ireland Cracks Down on Crypto Transfer Anonymity

Share

Ireland has announced stricter verification requirements for cryptocurrency transfers involving self-custodied wallets as part of its first national anti-money laundering (AML) strategy.

The new strategy, which will run through 2030, requires crypto service providers operating in Ireland to verify information on both senders and recipients in transactions involving self-custodied wallets. This includes enhanced customer due diligence when dealing with overseas crypto firms.

The move aligns with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and signals a broader regulatory push across the European Union.
