IREN Stock Sees Wild Swings Amid Transformation from Crypto Miner to AI Player
IREN's stock has been experiencing significant volatility, reflecting its transition from a Bitcoin mining company to an AI infrastructure provider. The company's numbers tell a story of extremes, with a 53.48% drop from its November peak but also a 139.82% gain since its summer low.
The old correlation between IREN and Bitcoin has broken down, as miners like IREN are now trading more like semiconductor stocks, with amplified swings in both directions. This is evident in the company's annualized 30-day volatility of 137.62%, which reflects this new logic.
IREN has secured roughly 85% of its target of over $4 billion in annual recurring revenue from its AI cloud operations and has a five-year contract with NVIDIA worth $3.4 billion, covering up to 5 gigawatts, paired with an option to purchase 30 million IREN shares at $70 each.
The company's strategy of relying on debt rather than selling Bitcoin reserves is distinct from its competitors, who have been selling their Bitcoin holdings to finance their transformations. This adds leverage to IREN's balance sheet, supporting a market capitalization of around €11.85 billion.
