iShares Bitcoin Trust Dominates Spot ETF Market with $61B Net Assets
Bitcoin has made a significant recovery in recent weeks, surging by 21% since August 19. As investors seek exposure to this digital asset, they have several spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to choose from.
The iShares Bitcoin Trust (NASDAQ: IBIT) stands out as the largest and most popular option, with $61.4 billion in net assets. This is significantly more than its closest competitor, the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, which has less than 25% of IBIT's net assets.
The iShares Bitcoin Trust has seen significant inflows, with billions of dollars flowing into spot Bitcoin ETFs over the past nine days, mostly going to IBIT. This trend is expected to continue, supporting its position at the top of the industry.
With a scale and liquidity that tightly tracks the price of Bitcoin, IBIT offers a compelling choice for long-term investors adopting a buy-and-hold strategy. The 0.25% expense ratio may be higher than some other options, but it comes with the certainty of owning an ETF sponsored by reputable asset management company BlackRock.
BlackRock has $15.3 trillion in assets under management across its different products, making it a favorite among institutional investors. JPMorgan Chase, Mubadala Investment Company, and Brevan Howard Capital Management are some of the top holders of IBIT.
