ISO 20022 Adoption Seen as Threat to Bitcoin's Payment Narrative
The adoption of ISO 20022 across global payment networks is sparking debate among digital asset analysts. Researcher SMQKE argues that this standard could reshape how major cryptocurrencies compete for relevance in institutional finance.
ISO 20022 establishes a unified framework for payment messaging, allowing different digital currencies to interact more efficiently within existing infrastructure. This interoperability would enable companies and individuals to transact in the digital currency best suited for their needs.
XRP is seen as a prime beneficiary of ISO 20022 adoption, as it operates on the blockchain-based payment system developed by Ripple. XRP's compliance with the standard would allow it to function smoothly alongside central bank digital currencies within centralized payment environments.
However, Bitcoin faces a different challenge. As standardized messaging improves interoperability between CBDCs and other digital currencies, the argument for using Bitcoin as an alternative to centralized financial systems weakens.
