Italian Fake Investment Bank Scammers Collect Over $6 Million
A financial crime ring in Italy has been dismantled by authorities after collecting over $6 million from hundreds of investors. The operation, which involved a fake investment bank, used the promise of high returns on investments in gold and cryptocurrencies to lure victims.
The investigation, led by the Torino Guardia di Finanza, found that the investment bank was unregistered and had no legitimate authorization to operate in the financial sector. Investors were promised high returns on their investments, which were supposedly being made in gold and cryptocurrencies.
However, investigators found that these investments were never actually made. Instead, the money was used by the scammers to buy properties, land, and shares in Italian companies. Over $1.6 million has been seized as part of the investigation.
