Polygon Labs has announced the launch of its fourth mainnet upgrade in under five months, dubbed Ithaca. This upgrade aims to improve the reliability and performance of payments on the Polygon Chain.

The Ithaca upgrade introduces several key features, including automatic failover that ensures transactions continue to flow smoothly even if a block producer encounters issues, new safeguards to prevent oversized transactions from straining the network, and improved operational visibility for node operators.

According to the team behind Polygon Labs, the goal of Ithaca is to create a more reliable payments experience on the chain. They argue that reliability is trust that compounds over time, allowing users to build their businesses without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.

The upgrade has already been rolled out on the mainnet at block 50,185,000 and requires Heimdall v0.10.0 for node operators. The team invites developers building payments products to consider using Polygon as a chain that prioritizes reliability.
