Japan Edges Closer to First Spot Bitcoin ETF with Regulatory Overhaul
Japan's financial regulatory environment is expected to evolve in favor of Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) by 2028, paving the way for the country's first spot Bitcoin ETF.
The development comes as Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) reviews its regulations on cryptocurrency-related products. The FSA has been working to create a more favorable environment for the growth of the crypto market in Japan.
In 2023, the Japanese government announced plans to relax rules around Bitcoin ETFs, which would allow them to track the price of Bitcoin rather than being backed by physical tokens. This change is expected to increase investor confidence and make it easier for retail investors to access the cryptocurrency market.
