Japan Explores On-Chain Government Bond Treatment and Finance Implementation
The Japanese Ministry of Finance is holding a research conference to discuss the on-chain treatment of government bonds, starting October 8th. The meeting will feature five experts, including professors from Tokyo University and Waseda University, as well as a chief strategist from All Nippon Asset Management.
The goal of the conference is to gather opinions and advice on the on-chain treatment of government bonds by the end of the year. This comes after the Ministry of Finance announced plans to examine the possibility of tokenizing government bonds in July's financial strategy document.
Separately, Japan's Financial Services Agency has also started exploring the implementation of on-chain finance, including the creation of a roadmap for official-private sector collaboration and the development of new payment systems. The agency has highlighted the potential benefits of blockchain technology in enhancing financial inclusion and promoting stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
