Japan FSA Creates Dedicated Crypto Unit Amid Regulatory Shift
Japan's Financial Services Agency is strengthening its digital asset supervision framework by establishing an independent 'Cryptocurrency and Stablecoin Division'.
The reorganisation, effective August 7th, upgrades the existing 'Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and Innovation Counsellor's Office' to a division-level unit.
The new division will be placed under the Asset Management and Insurance Bureau and will handle cryptocurrency-related regulatory planning and supervision in a more systematic way.
The agency sees stablecoin issuance and distribution as crucial areas of oversight, replacing 'blockchain and innovation' in the previous name.
