Japan Races Towards Historic Approval of First Bitcoin ETF
Japan is moving closer to approving its first Bitcoin ETF after recent legislation moved oversight of spot cryptocurrencies from the Payment Services Act (PSA) to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (FIEA).
This change would place crypto assets under a framework similar to traditional financial products such as stocks and bonds.
Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama recently said the government is on track to legalize cryptocurrency ETFs, with several major asset managers reportedly exploring Bitcoin ETF launches in Japan.
The market could attract up to 3 trillion yen in inflows by fiscal 2028, as Japanese investors increasingly view cryptocurrencies as a potential diversification tool.
