Japan Requests Tax Exemption for Trust-Type Stablecoins Starting in 2027
The Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) has submitted a request to exempt trust-type stablecoins from mandatory tax filings starting in fiscal year 2027.
The agency argued that these types of stablecoins are used for frequent and numerous transactions among a broad number of users, and users cannot earn income from holding them.
Subject to legislative approval, the tax exemption could apply to trust-type stablecoins starting April 1, 2027, the beginning of Japan's fiscal year 2027.
This move is part of Japan's ongoing efforts to bring cryptocurrency under the same regulatory umbrella as traditional financial assets.
