Japan's Borrowing Costs Soar: Will Weakened Yen Hurt Bitcoin?
Japan's borrowing costs have reached their highest level since September 1996, with the 10-year government bond yield touching 2.945%. This is a significant increase from previous months and has caused concern for investors. The yen has also weakened, slipping back toward 159 per dollar after August's rescue rally.
The rise in borrowing costs and weakening yen have sparked worries about the impact on global markets, particularly Bitcoin. Despite these concerns, Bitcoin has continued to climb, up 22% in seven days.
Analysts at the Global Markets Investor noted that Japan's bond market is flashing a warning signal, with the 10-year government bond yield surging above 2.95%. They attribute this increase to core inflation reaching 1.8% in July, up from 1.6% in June.
The Bank of Japan meets on September 17 and 18, and economists widely expect it to lift its policy rate from 1% to 1.25%, marking the next step in exiting ultra-low rates.
