JPMorgan Sees Potential Shift in Market Dynamics as Investors Hedge Against Bitcoin
JPMorgan's analysis of derivatives and short-selling data shows that investors are heavily hedging against Bitcoin-related products, suggesting a potential shift in market dynamics.
The bank found that BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) has approximately 45.93 million shares sold short as of August 31, 2026, with a position valued at roughly $2.05 billion and an increase of 23.8% from the previous reporting period.
This is in contrast to gold ETFs, which have seen capital returning to them, offsetting earlier withdrawals, according to JPMorgan's figures.
The put-to-call open-interest ratio for IBIT is higher than that of SPDR Gold Shares (GLD), indicating a greater use of downside-oriented options positions around the Bitcoin fund.
