JPMorgan Weighs Issuance of Its Own Stablecoin Amid Regulatory Clarity
JPMorgan Chase is exploring the possibility of launching its own stablecoin, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The bank's spokesperson said there are currently no plans to issue one, but that they would consider all options in the future depending on customer demand and changes in the regulatory environment.
The review remains in its early stages, with no formal productization or launch timeline established. JPMorgan already offers tokenized deposits called 'JPM Coin' for institutional investors, which are deposit tokens representing U.S. dollar deposits on a blockchain.
Stablecoins are crypto assets designed to maintain a value pegged to one U.S. dollar. If JPMorgan were to issue a stablecoin, it would become a new alternative competing with established major stablecoins such as Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC.
