JPMorgan's $266K Bitcoin Valuation Stands Far Above Market Price

JPMorgan's analysts have been touting an astonishing price tag of $266,000 for Bitcoin since February 2026, claiming it would capture a similar share of the store-of-value market as gold. However, despite this lofty estimate, Bitcoin has been trading at around $81,000.

The discrepancy can be attributed to JPMorgan's model, which compares Bitcoin with gold on a volatility-adjusted basis. The bank estimates that private-sector gold holdings total about $8 trillion and calculates what Bitcoin's market capitalization would need to be to match that exposure, finding a value close to $5.3 trillion, which translates to approximately $266,000 per coin.

The difference between $5.3 trillion and $8 trillion reflects the volatility adjustment, as investors can achieve equivalent exposure with fewer dollars in Bitcoin due to its higher volatility. However, this valuation model does not account for critical factors such as time, interest rates, and capital flows.
