Kakao Pay and KakaoBank Team Up with Fireblocks to Explore Stablecoin Opportunities
Kakao Pay and KakaoBank have joined forces with crypto infrastructure provider Fireblocks to explore opportunities in digital assets, including stablecoins. The two South Korean financial companies will conduct proof-of-concept tests for digital asset infrastructure tailored to their country's regulatory, security, and service requirements.
The initiative aims to establish secure onchain infrastructure for South Korea's emerging digital asset market. Kakao Pay operates mobile payments and financial services, while KakaoBank is one of the largest internet-only banks in the country.
This collaboration follows a separate memorandum signed by Kakao Group and stablecoin issuer Circle in July. The two companies explored opportunities around won-denominated stablecoins and related services as part of their agreement.
