Kakaopay Explores Tokenizing Korean Stocks with Dinari and Ondo
Kakaopay Securities has partnered with Dinari and Ondo Finance to explore tokenizing Korean-listed stocks for distribution in international markets. The agreement will allow Kakaopay to source underlying Korean shares, tokenize them using Dinari's dShares model, and distribute the tokens globally.
The partnership with Dinari will involve a proof of concept using the dShares model, which preserves shareholder rights such as dividends and voting. However, no specific companies have been selected for this pilot project, and there is no set timeline for commercial availability.
Ondo Finance's agreement with Kakaopay will focus on establishing a framework for sourcing and custodying Korean-listed shares that can be tokenized later. The two companies will also research token issuance and redemption processes.
The move comes as South Korea prepares to implement new regulations for tokenized securities, which are expected to take effect in February 2027. Tokenized stocks have seen significant growth this year, reaching $3.2 billion in distributed value by late September, according to RWA.xyz.
