Kalshi Expands into Traditional Derivatives with Gold and Silver Perps
Kalshi, a blockchain-based platform, has launched perpetual gold and silver futures trading in the United States after receiving approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
This move marks an expansion of Kalshi's business beyond prediction markets and cryptocurrencies. The company had previously applied for CFTC approval to introduce gold Perps in July, which was granted on September 8.
Kalshi cited trader demand as the reason for expanding its product lineup to include metals, with Udesh Jha, chief risk officer at Kalshi Klear, stating that metals, especially gold and silver, can attract investor interest as assets linked to inflation. The company plans to continue expanding its Perps product lineup.
The launch of gold and silver Perps is expected to be an opportunity for Kalshi to expand its business structure into traditional derivatives. However, competition with existing derivatives exchanges over the Perps market is intensifying, with CME Group filing a lawsuit against the CFTC, arguing that the process by which regulators allowed Perps contracts was improper.
