Kalshi Seeks Approval for Crude Oil Perpetual Futures Contracts
Kalshi is pushing to bring perpetual futures contracts to crude oil trading on the US exchange. This move would mark a significant expansion for the CFTC-registered exchange, which has seen rapid growth with its crypto-native products.
The company's journey into perpetual futures started with Bitcoin in May 2026, where its first contract was approved by the CFTC and went live on June 3. The reception was enthusiastic, with crypto perps surpassing $1 billion in notional volume within their first week of trading and ballooning to $16.1 billion by early July 2026.
Kalshi's chief risk officer, Udesh Jha, described the company's discussions with the CFTC as 'advanced' as of July 9, 2026. The exchange is proceeding under Regulation 40.3, which establishes a case-by-case approval process for new perpetual futures products.
