Kalshi's AI-Generated Ad Sparks Controversy with Unauthorized Use of Content Creator's Video
Popular Asian content creator Elliot Choy recently discovered that Kalshi's AI-generated ad for its crypto prediction market had been created using his YouTube video without permission. The original video, which featured Choy in his New York apartment, was altered to depict a white man.
Choy shared a screenshot of the edited ad on social media, pointing out that it was an unauthorized use of his content. Kalshi has since confirmed that the ad is real and that the company is reviewing its relationship with its marketing agency.
In another AI-generated ad for Kalshi, users have been ridiculing the platform's attempt to depict a couple in financial trouble. The animation style, reminiscent of Pixar, features a woman who uses her knowledge of baking to gamble on egg prices on Kalshi. Some users have described the ad as 'cringe' and 'out of touch.'
Kalshi has been under scrutiny this week after being accused of wash trading. A recent report by The Wall Street Journal found $5 billion worth of uniform trades on the platform in one month, with some users speculating that Kalshi may have paid influencers to share its rejection of allegations.
