Kazakhstan Offers Tax Breaks to Bring Cryptocurrency Back Home
Kazakhstan is trying to lure its citizens' cryptocurrency back into the country by offering tax breaks and a more stable regulatory framework. The move comes after the country's power grid was strained when it became one of the world's largest crypto mining hubs five years ago.
The government has signed a decree that encourages citizens to declare their cryptocurrency holdings, move them onto regulated domestic platforms, and integrate digital assets into the country's economy.
Private investors will be exempt from taxes on personal income from digital asset transactions for three years if they comply with certain conditions. These include not being connected to fraud, money laundering, or unlicensed crypto services.
The government hopes that this measure will attract more miners and make it easier for them to operate in the country. This is a significant change from five years ago when many miners were forced to leave due to the strain on the power grid.
