Keel Infrastructure Shifts Focus with Sherbrooke Data Centre Conversion
Keel Infrastructure is shifting its business strategy from Bitcoin mining to high-performance computing and AI applications. The company plans to repurpose electricity currently allocated to three Bitcoin-mining sites for HPC and AI use in a proposed 96-megawatt data centre in Sherbrooke.
The project, which received local approval on July 15, targets an earliest ready-for-service date of 2028. Keel will consolidate power from the three current Bitcoin-mining sites into a single campus in Sherbrooke.
The company has entered into an agreement to purchase land for the proposed data centre and expects the transaction to close during the first quarter of 2027. The project's timeline depends on development and approval stages, including provincial review of the proposed change in electricity use.
