Kennedy Pushes for Vote on Clarity Act Amid Growing Frustration with Crypto Regulation
Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana has called on the Senate to hold an immediate vote on the CLARITY Act, a piece of legislation aimed at clarifying the regulatory framework for digital assets. The bill seeks to establish clearer guidelines for how U.S. laws apply to cross-border data and digital asset transactions.
Kennedy emphasized that the Senate has spent years discussing cryptocurrency policy and that further delay would be unjustifiable. He pointed out that waiting for unanimous consent would likely prevent any vote from occurring, given the contentious nature of digital asset policy.
The CLARITY Act is part of a broader congressional effort to address the regulatory gap left by the lack of a comprehensive federal framework for cryptocurrencies. Other proposals, such as the Lummis-Gillibrand Responsible Financial Innovation Act, have also been introduced but have yet to pass.
