Kentucky Scammers Prey on Residents with Fake Jury Duty and Bitcoin Fine

A combined jury duty and cryptocurrency scam is targeting residents in Kentucky. According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), scammers are calling people, claiming they missed jury duty, and pressuring them to pay a fine to 'resolve' the situation.

The KSP warns that the scammer instructs their victim to withdraw cash and take it to a local Bitcoin kiosk to pay the fine. Instead of paying a legitimate fine, the money goes directly to the scammer.

Once cryptocurrency is sent, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to recover. Legitimate law enforcement officials do not ask for or accept Bitcoin as payment for fines.

The KSP suggests using the 'Pause, Check, and Protect' method to help spot and avoid scams. If you're unsure whether a call is legitimate, take a moment to verify the information through an official source before taking any action.
